I raised a Lv 1 human ranger back from the dead no problem, but I noticed that its not leveling up while my other Lv 1 rangers have. The stats haven't changed so is this a penalty for raising dead characters.

There are two kinds of raises, normal and full. The normal raise has the penalty that it lowers your constitution by one point, the full raise has no penalty (assuming, of course that it succeeds). Neither raise affects your ability to make level in any way.

However, you need to understand how leveling works when you are comparing the advancement of two characters. There is no 'experience' counter in the game. Each time your character kills (or is hit) by a monster he has a chance to make level. The probability is based on your character's class, race, level, the level of the monster and the level of the dungeon. If two characters are the same race and class then the fact that one seems to be advancing faster is just the luck of the draw. Note also, that the Ranger class is the hardest class to level.

You will have to wait a few levels before you can perform a full raise yourself, the temple in town only does standard raises. Note that if a standard raise fails then death is certain, if a full raise fails it then attempts a standard raise (which will deduct constitution, and may also fail)

Note also, that if the raise fails then you are pretty much permanently dead, although rumor has it that there MIGHT be a way...

What?! I never heard this rumor. From whom did you hear it? What specifically did it say? Did you hear it from a peasant? They don't know anything. Don't get your hopes up.
