Yes, it can take a while, but if it was easy, everyone would have one. What I really hate is when I am pressing the reroll button to quickly and move past a decent character by mistake. I suppose that I could add a 'backup' button, but where's the fun in that?

You could tie it into the temporal chamber and charge one portal stone for each backstep in the character creation screen.
