Why aren't there controlled versions of lightning or ice spells that don't wipe out your party when cast?

There is a controlled lightning bolt (Skorpic, level 5). As for the lower level fireball and lightning, I realize that they are pretty much useless, and I have been thinking about ways to change that. I have used them in the past, however. If you order your party correctly, you CAN survive, but the healing required to recover from their use is very tedious. Hopefully I can come up with a way to make them more useful.

Well, as they are now, I'd rather they didn't exist. I just fried half my party for about the tenth time by accident, hitting Lightning Bolt instead of Confusion. Sigh, two didn't survive the rezzing.

Sorry to hear that, and I quite agree. The spells as they are now are pretty useless. We are working on changing that, but we need to be careful that we don't make them too powerful in the process.
