Armor class caps at -30, but do items that increase defense still help with saving throws?

Am I wasting platinum rings or holy crosses on the Sammys who are maxed with no jewelry, or are they still helping against spell chuckers?

I don't believe that AC affects spells.

I didn't think that AC affected spells, but in some games a ring of pro + 2 helps saving throws against spells as well as increasing your AC. Just was not sure if this was the case in oub or not.

I am pretty sure that it only affects your AC.
