I have used the 20 gems I had. How can I get more?

You can find portal gems in the 'special rooms' that are on each level. To find the rooms, you can purchase a gem in the shop that will lead you to the 'special room' on level 1. One of the rewards you can get in the special rooms is gems that can lead you to special rooms on other levels. Note that the special rooms also can yield other special items which can be found nowhere else in the dungeon.
